serious drought conditions over a wide area of eastern Australia, the
rising popularity of Simmentals resulted in good sales results
throughout.

Sales
(to December
31, 2003)
At
the 24 auction sales held in 2003, 450 Simmental bulls sold
to a top price of $20,000
and an average of $3,413.
The
clearance at auction in 2003 has been a high 85%.
Top
price honours for Bull Sales in 2003 has
been
$20,000 for Woonallee Washington sold at the National Simmental Sale
by:
TRS & MA
Baker's Woonallee stud, Millicent, SA to:
Peter Trevan's Hazell Dell stud, Lock, Vic.
The
Gowrie Stud Simbrah bull sale in Charleville, achieved
a 100% clearance of 61 bulls selling to a top of $$5,500 and an
average $2,750.
At
the 5 Female auction sales in 2003, 136 Simmental females sold
to a top price of $5,750
and an average of $2,118.
The
sales
results, outlined below, demonstrate continuing growth in demand for
Simmental breeding stock over recent years. Higher clearances and
higher average prices at auction, have been repeated in many private
on-farm sales.
