Select Simmental Genetic Sale reaches a top of $11,000

The inaugural Select Simmental Bull and Female sale was conducted at Roma saleyards, Queensland on the 25th of August and included prominent studs from Queensland and New South Wales with registered buyers attending from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

Of the 52 bulls on offer, 40 sold with a 77% clearance and an average price of $2,900. Top price of $11,000 was attained by a Full Blood South African bull, Star Profeet A013, offered by the Dr Peter Gous and family, 'Star Genetics', Gympie Qld. The Kwantum Profeet X Ai Ai Siska son was purchased up by a NSW producer from the Central South Coast who had been searching for some time for an outcross sire to compliment their herd of Evan, Haped and Benz females and had seen both Profeet and Siska at the 2002 World Congress in South Africa.

Second top price of $7,000 went to the 2008 Ekka Senior Champion Bull, Brewers Xavier, offered by Martin Rowlands of 'KBV Simmentals'. Xavier was knocked down to Niobe Gadsby, Qld and weighed in at 900kg with an eye muscle of 134sq cm and a fat cover of 6mm and 5mm.

Peter and Tony Rauchle of 'Springside Simmentals' sold 5 bulls for an average of $3,500
Russell and Karen Nowland, 'Cania Gold' were extremely pleased with their 100% clearance, selling all 5 Fullblood South African bulls for an average of $3,700.

Junior member, Mathew Wiedman, Ironbark, was thrilled to bits selling his Bar 5 Expert son to Andrew Jamieson, Vic, for $4,000.

The top priced female 'Star Fiona' offered by Dr Peter Gous and family, 'Star Genetics'

Unfortunately there was a major hiccup in the Female section of the sale when a single cattle tick was found on one of the females at the inspection station. The whole draft of full South African blood line, Simmental females offered by 'Star genetics' was held back and so was unable to be presented for display. The females were then offered for sale via the catalogue with 11 of the 20 females selling to a top of $4,000 with an average of $1,830.
Stan White of 'Vintage Simmentals' Kingaroy, bought the top priced female lot 70, Star Fiona a Kykso Haped X Wisp will Fiona daughter.

All the vendors were delighted with result considering it was an inaugural sale and are looking forward to bigger and better results for the 2nd sale to be held at Roma on the 24th of August 2009.
