Illabo Sale Bulls to $6000 high |

By CARA JEFFERY from The Land newspaper on the 24th of April 2008 BULLS sold to $6000 at Australia’s largest Simmental multi-vendor bull and female sale at the Baldry family’s property, “Ivanhoe”, Illabo, on Monday, where more than 80 head went under the hammer. Of the 47 bulls offered from the 10 vendors, 24 sold to an average of $2854. The $6000 top-priced bull, Tennysonvale Barclay (P), was offered by Ian and Cheryl Baldry, Tennysonvale stud, Illabo, and through spirited bidding was secured by Spencer White, Alex Johnston and Company, Inverell, on behalf of Clerkness Pastoral Company manager, Chris Strahle, Bundarra. Barclay, was a June 2006-drop bull by Tennysonvale Mr Wallace (P) and from Johill Park Victoria (P). Mr White purchased three other bulls on behalf of Mr Strahle, including Wormbete Beaufort for $4000 and a grade 1 Simmental/Angus, Wormbete A134, for $3000, from John and Nicole Hopkins’ stud, Wormbete, Illabo. From the Tennysonvale stud he bought Tennysonvale Abott (P) for $2750. The female portion of the sale was hotly contested with Victorian clients keen to secure heifers. In all, 30 of the 37 females sold to an average of $1823. The top-priced heifer, Wandella Park Cher (P), was offered by Warren and Helen Salway, Wandella Park stud, Cobargo, and was snapped up for a healthy $2750 by Peter Trevan, Hazeldel Simmentals, Leongatha, Victoria. Cher, a June 2007-drop calf, was by Tennysonvale Yarrawonga BXN PY051 and from Holland Bend Xandra HLD PX009. The second-top-priced heifer, Tennysonvale Bathany (P), was a July 2006-drop sired by Tennysonvale Mr Wallace (P) and from Coolaroy Vanessa. Bathany was also bought by Hazeldel Simmentals for $2600. Eleven embryo packages sold for a top of $150 each for a $114 average and 118 semen packages sold for a top of $60 each and a $17 average. Tennysonvale stud principal, Ian Baldry, said he was happy with the outcome of the sale under the current seasonal conditions.“I was very pleased to a see a number of new buyers at this year’s sale,” he said. Buyers travelled from as far as Texas and Charleville in Queensland, Cobar, Cooma, Tumut, Singleton, Colac and Ouyan, Victoria, and the local area. |
