Good results for Simmental at Sydney Royal Hoof and Hook competition

There were some commendable results achieved at the 2008 Sydney Royal Easter Show. Simmental steers performed well and the results in the Steer and Carcase Competition reflected the hard work and dedication of the schools and breeders in preparing the animals.

Within the heavyweight open steer 501 – 549kg lwt Stuart Hobbs of Molong, NSW achieved a highly commended result from the judges of the ‘on the hoof’ section and followed this up with a silver medal in the carcase judging.

A steer breed by Alan Anderson and prepared by Macarthur Anglican School came away with a second place in the ‘on the hoof’ section of the middleweight school steer between 381 – 500kg lwt competition which was also a credit to the hard work involved.

In the same category a Carey Pastoral co. breed steer prepared by St Pauls College gained a third place in the ‘on the hoof’ section of the school steer and cascase competition.

St Pauls College had another entry with in the lightweight open steer 354 – 380kg lwt competition with a steer breed by Ashby Estate which was a commendable effort in preparation of the two steers.

With the good showing of quality Simmental steers throughout the competition, a good team was selected to contest the Stanhill Trophy. Simmental’s final placing was fifth and a special thanks must go to Charles Cassells for the selecting the team to contest the trophy.
