Yerwal Estate Simmies to $6500 top

Buyers were in the box seat at Yerwal Estate’s sixth annual Simmental sale at Lucindale on Saturday, with ten bulls selling for $3000 or less.
And despite a tremendous offering of good shaped, well-muscled, easy doing bulls just 15 of the 23 bulls sold through the ring for a $3233 average. The most likely cause for the flat sale was the larger number of Simmental bulls offered by South East studs this year which were unable to be absorbed by commercial vealer and weaner herds.

One of the highlights for vendors Trevor, Regan and Karen Burow was the sale of their $6500 top priced bull into a stud herd.
The respected New South Wales based Barana stud at Coolah bought Yerwal Estate Balboa- a March 2006 drop son of Woonallee Y3 weighing 936kilograms with a massive raw eye muscle area measurement of 138 square centimetres.

Stud principal Peter Cook described his new eye-appealing purchase as a “complete package” for its muscle, softness and doing ability. GW Jones, Mount Gambier secured the second top priced bull, Yerwal Estate Banks with a bid of $5250.

Other loyal clients among the 18 registered bidders included Jim and Melinda Moore, Penola with three bulls to a $4750 top and $3083 average, and Kingsley and Margaret Moore, also of Penola who bought two bulls to a $4000 top.

Yerwal Estate stud principal Regan Burow said the inquiry at their field day earlier in the week had been “exceptional” but their usual volume of buyers had capitalised on quality bulls at reasonable prices at earlier sales.

“It was a sheer case of supply and demand,” Regan said. He said it was likely the sale which was brought forward to coincide with the other local Simmental sales would remain at the same time next year.
And looking ahead to the 2009 sale Regan said he has received many favourable comments on their new exciting genetics, yearlings sired by Woonallee Africa. Africa produced some of the high priced lots in the Woonallee sale this year.
