Barana Simmentals, Coolah, NSW, held their 7th Annual Bull Sale on August 20, attracting a large crowd and achieving a very solid sale result.

Noel & Jill Mobbs, Gowrie Pastoral Co, Charleville, Qld secured the top priced bull, at $18,000
~ Lot 5, Barana Angelo, by Barana Yardley (P) out of Barana Winne (P).

Stud principal, Peter Cook, was very pleased with the overall sale result, noting that there were bulls sold at a spread of prices to suit a range of buyers' needs. A number of passed in bulls were sold after the sale.

In total, 35 Simmental bulls sold at auction for an average $4,014, with 3 SimAngus bulls selling to $4,250 to average $3,000.

The 10 Simmental heifers were all snapped up for an average $2,025 to a top of $2,750.

Volume buyers included repeat buyer R.L.Rankin, Muswellbrook, buying 4 bulls for a $3,000 average. Wahroonga bought 3 for a $3167 average, and the Nowlands from Gunnedah purchased 2 for a $4,500 average.

Eric Harvey, Geurie Rural, Geurie selected a bull for $3,500 and a heifer for $1,500.

Stan White, Vintage Simmentals, Kingaroy, Qld selected lot 7, the scurred Barana Bolton for $9,000.

The York family, Billa Park Simmentals selected lot 6, Barana Allister for $8,000.

From South Australia, Regan Burows, Yerwel Est Simmentals, Naracoorte, purchased lot 11 Barana Brandberg (P) for $4,000.

The Tiltai family from Dubbo selected 5 of the excellent line of heifers for an average $2,400 and a top of $2,750.

New stud breeders, Tim and Jillian Acton, Haras Simmentals, Manila, bought 4 of the heifers to $2,000 for an average $1,688.
3 black SimAngus bulls were offered, with two selling for $4,250 and $2,750.

Evident  trends:

• There was stronger demand for Registered Simmentals, experienced a 10% higher clearance and a $1,291 higher average than the unregistered Simmentals.
  
  
• Polled and Scurred bulls were in strong demand, averaging $1,417 more than the dehorned bulls.
  
  
• There was solid demand for the black SimAngus bulls.
  
  
• All registered Simmental heifers sold
