Simmental bulls sold strongly at the Agfest, Launceston, Tasmania multi-breed bull sale, May 3 to 5.
Scott Frankcombe, Roland Black Simmentals, Sheffield, Tasmania gained the Sale’s Top Price of $3,500 for a registered Purebred Black Simmental bull, Slopes Black Ice (P) (BL).
Sired by Daume Legend M081 (P) (BL) (ET), the 23 month old Black Ice weighed 794 kg and was purchased by Bob and Joan Wilson, Bagdad.
They also sold a ¾ Black Simmental bull for $2,750.
Michael and Kaye Frankcombe, Slopes Simmentals , Sheffield, Tas, sold a registered Purebred Red Simmental bull for $2,250 and a registered SimAngus bull for $2,250.
Darryl and Yvonne Barker, Darvon Simmentals, Whitemark, Tas sold their SimAngus bull for $2,000.
The Sim bull offering achieved a 100% clearance and a healthy average of $2,550.
The multi-breed Helmsman sale, held over 3 days, gave buyers a more relaxed approach to comparing and bidding on the range of mostly European breeds bulls on offer.
The Sale Summary included Simmental/SimAngus (all 5 sold), Limousin (3 sold), Saler (2 sold), Charolais (no bids), Shorthorn (no bids).
While the drought has tightened the demand for bulls generally, the demand for Black and Red Simmental and SimAngus bulls, predominantly for use in Angus herds, was encouraging to vendors at this sale.
