SIMMENTAL
Simmental
judge at Royal Brisbane Show, Mr
Reid Radel, Kandoona, Yebna Station, Injune, Qld, described
the Simmental exhibits as an impressive display of the breed, featuring
moderate frame size and maturity pattern, with good structure, good
weight for age and strong muscling plus the excellent maternal traits
for which the breed is famed.
He selected as his Grand Champion Bull, the Senior Champion Bull, Brewers Pascoe Z528 (P), a polled 24 month old, weighing 886 kg with 125 sq cm EMA and 6/9 mm fat at Rib/P8. Sired by Brewers Alex, out of Brewers Heidi, Pascoe Z528 was exhibited by Martin Rowlands’ KBV Simmental stud, Kallangur, Qld. The judge described the Champion as not the heaviest bull, but a well balanced, structurally correct, heavily muscled potential stud sire.

Reserve
Senior Champion Bull was awarded to BG Dean and BCJ & KW Dean’s
Gadfields Simmental stud, Wooroolin, Qld for their Gadfields Bruce, by
Scottish Marquis out of Gadfields Babella.
Grand
Champion Female was awarded to the Senior Champion Female, Goonoo Creek
Yarran, bred and exhibited by Graham and Sandra Jordan, Goonoo Creek
Simmentals, Tamworth, NSW. Sired by SP Robobull 100J out of Sydney Show
Champion, Goonoo Creek Symara, Yarran appealed to the judge as a very
functional, structurally correct cow with great maternal qualities.
The
Jordan’s also won Reserve Champion Junior Female with Goonoo Creek
Anna, also by SP Robobull 100J. They gained second place in the Breeders
Group and won the prestigious Most Successful Exhibitor Award.
Junior
Champion Female was awarded to Brewers Simmentals and Qld Junior
Simmental Breeders for their Brewers Heidi A820, by Wormbete Xavier out
of Brewers Heidi X326.
Junior
Champion Bull was awarded to Rodney and Elisabeth Skene’s Meldon Park
Achilles, by Bushlands X643 out of Meldon Park Why. The 15 months old
Achilles weighed 632 kg and had 104 sq cm eyemuscle area.
Reserve
Senior Champion Female was won by Star Genetics Simmental stud, Gympie,
Qld for their South African origin Star Nolheida Z005 by Kykso Haped out
of Kykso Nolheida.
They
also won Reserve Junior Champion Bull for their South African origin
Star Evan Z017 by Salerika Evan out of Kykso Nolheida. To cap it off,
they won the coveted Breeders Group award.
The Handlers Award was won by Lew Allison with a trophy presented by Clay Gully and Goonoo Creek studs.

SIMBRAHS
Mr
Reid Radel
also judged the Simbrah classes, who commented that the Simbrah breed
has great potential, particularly in Queensland to introduce the growth,
carcase and maternal traits of the Simmental coupled with the bos
indicus adaptive traits.
He
awarded Champion Simbrah Bull to New Luscar Zoton, bred and
exhibited by Ian and Judith Marshall’s, New Luscar Simmental &
Simbrah studs, The Gap, Qld. The 24 month old Zoton was sired by New
Luscar Sir Vox out of New Luscar Apis 341 and exhibited outstanding
muscling.
They
also were awarded Reserve Champion Simbrah Bull for New Luscar Zephyr,
by New Luscar Sir Warwick out of New Luscar Miss Vogue.
Their
New Luscar Abbie was awarded Champion Simbrah Female. She was sired by
New Luscar Sir Warwick out of New Luscar Apis 341.
Reserve Champion Simbrah Female was awarded to Miss Robbie Shaw, Yarrayne Simmental and Simbrah studs, Esk, Qld for her Yarrayne Yassie, by Yarrayne UFO out of Yarrayne Ultimo.
