Impressive Simmental Showing at Beef 2006 |

An impressive display of Simmentals caught the eye of spectators at the major industry event, Beef 2006 at Rockhampton in May. Well known beef industry identity, Dugal McDougall, Warwick, judged the Simmental entries and was delighted with the overall quality of the 40 plus Simmentals on display. He selected as the Grand Champion Bull, the Junior Champion, Vintage Centaur, exhibited by SR & BJ White, Vintage Simmentals, Kingaroy. Sired by Vintage Matty, the 18 month old, muscley Centaur weighed 880kg and scanned 125 sq cm EMA, with 10/8 mm fat depth (rib/rump). Grand Champion Female was the Senior Champion, Ellendale Sweet Karamel (P), entered by the Pocock family, Ellendale Simmentals, Lowood. The 31 month old polled Red Simmental by BH Right Time 520E (P) was described by the judge as very feminine and with strong maternal characteristics. Senior Champion Bull was awarded to Meldon Park Zoom, exhibited by Rodney & Elisabeth Skene, Meldon Park Simmentals, Jindalee, via Dalby. Zoom was sired by Clay Gully Twain. Calf Champion Bull was awarded to 11 month old Meldon Park Achilles, also exhibited by Rodney & Elisabeth Skene. Achilles was sired by Bushlands X643. Junior Champion Female was awarded to Yarrayne Zillah, exhibited by Robbie Shaw, Yarrayne Simmental & Simbrah stud, Esk. Zillah was sired by Yarrayne Reprobate. Calf Champion Female was awarded to 10 month old Ellendale Red Coture 520E (P), entered by the Pocock family, Ellendale Simmentals, Lowood. Other award winners are reported below. Rodney & Elisabeth Skene, Meldon Park Simmentals had a highly successful showing, also winning all three Group classes. These were the Exhibitors Group, the Sires Progeny Group (sire was Clay Gully Twain) and the Dam’s Progeny Group (dam was Meldon Park Who). To cap it off, they were awarded the Most Successful Exhibitor Trophy. Beef 2006 provide excellent trophies for the Grand Champions which also received complimentary Genestar kits. Other Champions and Reserve Champions received memorable Beef 2006 trophies, provided by the Qld Branch of ASBA, the Qld Junior Simmental Group, Clay Gully Simmentals and the BCM Simmental group.
