Great Opportunity Prime Beef Bull and Female Sale Tops $6,000 |

A large attendance at the Great Opportunity Prime Beef Bull and Female Sale at Ivanhoe, Illabo on April 4 resulted in 108 Simmentals, Fleckviehs and unregistered cattle sell for an average $2,313. While very dry
conditions and feed shortages in southern NSW restricted demand for
bulls, there was widespread strong demand for females. A well
presented line of breeders was offered by 4 Simmental studs, Ian and
Cheryl Baldry’s Tennysonvale Simmentals, Illabo, John and Nicole
Hopkins’ Wormbete Simmentals, Illabo, Graham and Dianne Corney’s
Bilanda Simmentals, South Bowenfels, Mark Cook’s Wyoming Simmentals,
Illabo, Terry Coolahan, Coolaroy, Terang and Heather Wiseman’s Boorang
Simmentals, South Bowenfels. The sale
featured a complete dispersal of Heather Wiseman’s Boorang Simmentals. Top price of $6,000 was paid by Dr Peter Trevan, Hazel
Dell Simmentals, Leongatha, Vic, for the cow and calf unit, Boorang
Ursula. Peter also purchased a Boorang heifer, Boorang Yvette for
$5,000. Mark
and Julie Peucker, Corinda Downs Simmentals, Mt Gambier, SA purchased
the second top priced lot, Wondenia Swish Dish for $5,500. They
also purchased some cows, heifers and calves and Tennysonvale Mr Wallace
(P) semen. Gerry
Hanning, Panania, NSW, purchased the cow Boorang Vanessa for $5,000 and
her polled heifer calf, Boorang Zuperb (p) for $5,000. He purchased
another two Boorang females, a cow, Boorang Umeko at $4,750 and a
heifer, Boorang Waratah for $2,750. The
volume buyer stakes were taken by the York family’s Billa Park
Simmentals, Miles Qld, purchasing 13 lots to a top of $4,500 for the cow
and calf pair, Boorang Wishes. Bill
and Elaine Sleep, Bilanbri, Woolsthorpe, Vic, purchased 9 lots,
including the $4,750 cow and calf pair, Wondenia Sonya. Another
volume buyer was Nigel Seaton, ELS Simmentals, Mt Gambier, SA, who also
purchased 8 female lots, including the $3,000 cow and calf pair, Boorang
Verity. Junior
member, Renae Graham, Cumberland Simmentals, Londonderry, NSW, added two
females to her stud, the $2,000 cow Boorang Wanda and a $1,500 heifer,
Tennysonvale Zilch. Muriel
Capel, Ouyan, Barraba, NSW, purchased a $2,000 polled bull, Tennysonvale
Yamaha Jack (P) and two calves for an average $1,625. Graham
and Dianne Corney, Bilandra Simmentals, South Bowenfels, NSW purchased
the bull Wormbete Ynot for $3,500 and three females averaging
$1,833. Garry
and Jackie Rahley, Aussie Park Simmentals, Southbrook, Qld purchased two
Simmental heifers for an $1,875 average. Another
of the Hopkins’ bulls, Wormbete Yes sold for $3,500 to David Jack,
"The Pines", Uranquinty, while the bull
Tennysonvale Yeasty (P) topped the Tennysonvale bull draft at $3,250. Max Dench, Genetrade Pty Ltd, Gilgandra, NSW, purchased 3 females to a top of $5,000, averaging $2,667.
