cross weaners again scored among the top prices Simmental crosses weighed 15 to 25 kg heavier than British Breed weaners (Angus, Hereford and Poll Hereford). Top price honours again went to Alva Downs Partnership, Branxholme, with a pen of 20 Simmental X Herefords fetching $859 per head, ($2.18 /kg), weighing 394 kg at the Casterton Weaner Sale on January 7. They sold 287 head averaging 338 kg and $703. Other key sales at Casterton Weaner Sale included: Rosebank which sold 160 Simmental X Herefords weighing 326 kg for $727.
Ian Kerr, Glenaulin, Dartmoor, who sold 58 Simmental X Herefords for $708. At

At the Casterton Weaner Sale the following week: Blink Bonnie sold 184 Simmental X Hereford and Hereford steer weaners to a top of $728 to average $684. Green Hills sold 42 Simmental/Hereford/Shorthorn cross steers to $660 to average $634.
At the Alexandra Weaner Sale: LJ & ME Ridd, Molesworth, sold 50 Simmental X Hereford weaner steers for the sale's top average $780.immental X Hereford and Hereford steer weaners to a top of $728 to average $684. Green Hills sold 42 Simmental/Hereford/Shorthorn cross steers to $660 to average $634.
