Simangus
Crossbreeding Simmental with Angus or Red Angus has proven very popular as a means of producing cattle with high performance, high market acceptance levels and meeting other convenience criteria.
The cross combines the best traits of both parent breeds. Superior weight gain, muscling, meat yield and maternal traits of the Simmental with the meat quality, polled and solid coat colour attributes of the Angus and Red Angus.

The result is a SimAngus animal, displaying:
• Easy Calving
• Polled
• Solid Coat Colour (black or red)
• Excellent Weight Gain,
• Ideal Fattening Pattern,
• High Meat Yield and
• Excellent Meat Quality.
• Females that exhibit excellent fertility and milking ability
The popularity of these breed mixes has created a strong demand for both bulls and females with varying combinations of Simmental (or Black Simmental or Red Simmental) and Angus/Red Angus.
Recognising this demand, the Simmental Society developed a performance register called “SimAngus” - providing registration and Breedplan recording of eligible cattle with varying degrees of Simmental and Angus (or Red Angus).
A registered SimAngus animal comprises between:
1/8 to 7/8 Simmental (or Black or Red Simmental) and
1/8 to 7/8 Angus or Red Angus
Breeders of SimAngus can choose the percentage breed mix to suit their own herds and the markets they supply.
Breeders are able to record with the Society their mating and calving details and receive
SimAngus Registration Certificates.
These Certificates show the percentage Simmental and Angus/Red Angus of the animal and each of its ancestors. Also shown is the animal’s coat colour (Black or Red) and its polled status.
On request by the breeder, SimAngus cattle can also be genetically evaluated using
Simmental Breedplan, providing direct comparisons of their EBVs and Breed Indexes to all other animals analysed in Simmental Breedplan.

SimAngus females are proven great vealer mothers, combining superior beef attributes with milking ability to rear big sappy calves.
Another plus is the suitability of SimAngus for self – replacing herds. Breeders can operate a simple to manage breeding herd, using SimAngus bulls to breed replacement SimAngus females with the percentage breed mix best suited to their conditions.
Breeders with Angus, Red Angus or SimAngus females are invited to apply to enroll them in the Society’s SimAngus register.
The new SimAngus register provides members with an additional value adding product with the bonus of generating increased demand for registered Simmentals, Black and Red Simmentals.
