Fleckvieh is one of the strains of the worldwide family of genotypes collectively named Simmental or Simmental/Fleckvieh.
The Fleckvieh strain traces its origins to the Austrian and German genotypes which have been predominantly selected for the dual purpose characteristics of milk and beef.
The Fleckvieh strain has been used widely in developing the Australian Simmental type.
